The BBC sends this tale about a drug dealer who mailed himself out of a German prison.

The 42-year-old Turkish citizen, described as tall and broad-shouldered, had been making stationery destined for stores. When his shift ended, he climbed into a cardboard box — 59 x 47 inches — and was whisked away by express courier.

He’s still on the lam from the prison in Willich, near Duesseldorf, where he was serving a seven-year sentence. The warden believes he had accomplices.

“I was not surprised that an escape happened on my watch,” said chief warden Beate Peters. “For years I had been asking for more security guards from the government. But now they’ll have to listen.”

“I’m in many, many rappers songs. And I know them. 50 Cent is sort of a friend of mine. I mean, he likes me. He just did a show. It was a copy of ‘The Apprentice.’ It will fail because he’s not Trump, but he’s actually a nice guy. And P. Diddy did a show which, by the way, I think bombed, but it was a copy. I wrote him a little note, ‘Good luck with the copy.’”

Alton Ellis R.I.P.

Alton Ellis, the Jamaican singer known as “The Godfather of Rocksteady”, passed away Friday, October 10 at Hammersmith Hospital in London. He was 70 years old.

According to an AP report citing hospital officials, “Ellis died peacefully,” and “his family did not wish to release details.” However, an obituary on the Trojan Records site points to a longstanding battle with cancer of the lymph glands as the cause of Ellis’ death.

Ellis rose to prominence in Jamaica as a ska singer for Clement “Coxsone” Dodd’s Studio One label in the early 60s, but his most influential contributions to Jamaican music came with his jump to Arthur “Duke” Reid’s Treasure Isle in the mid-60s. It was there that Ellis pioneered rocksteady, which preceded reggae by slowing down the tempo of ska, putting more direct focus on the bass, and aping the sweeter, lighter singing style of American R&B stars.

Both solo and with his vocal group the Flames, Ellis’ hits for included “I’m Still in Love With You”, “Get Ready – Rock Steady”, “Cry Tough”, “Girl I’ve Got a Date”, “My Willow Tree”, and “Dance Crasher”.

In the 70s, Ellis moved to England, where he started his own Alltone label and record store. In 2006, he was inducted in the International Reggae and World Music Awards Hall of Fame.

Thoughts on the VMA’s

BY TeV ’95

Last night VMA was sub par. Can someone tell me who this Tokyo band is? I must be getting old.

I honestly think that somehow some way, Britney Spears management and/or label paid someone at MTV off. Honestly, this chick was a train wreck last year and her videos sucked. Now all of a sudden, she was in all the VMA commercials, had a buzz of a suprise performance, and then goes on to win all these awards. Are you kidding me? Not even Britney herself believed it. She got up there and was like “Ummmm thanks”.

Alright thats enough. I cant believe I’m blogging about Britney. The highlight of the night was Kanye West’s performance. This dude is constantly putting out cutting edge material. I’ll admit sometime his style is kind of gay, but real recognize real and Kanye has been consistently dropping the truth. All his latest material is something sounding new; “Swagger Like Us”, “Jockin Jay-Z”, and now this new banger he droped out of now where “Love Lockdown”.

This is probably off Kanye’s new album set to drop early winter. I am not a big fan of the T-Pain auto-tune but somehow he pulls this off very well. This guy is changing the game before our eyes.

A Grafton woman has been arrested and booked for failing to pay her library fines. Heidi Dalibor, 20, told the News Graphic in Cedarburg she ignored the library’s calls and letters as well as a notice to appear in court. Still, she was surprised when officers with a warrant knocked on her door, cuffed her and took her to the police station to be fingerprinted and photographed. Police Capt. Joe Gabrish saied officers follow the same procedure with every warrant. The incident cost Dalibor about $30 for the overdue paperbacks “White Oleander” and “Angels and Demons” and her mother nearly $172 to get her out of custody.

THUG LUVIN’

By Coke

If i hear one more educated, intelligent, eloquent, independent black woman say, “I like a little thug luvin’” I’m going to lose my mind. Sistas, please don’t contribute to our cycle of self destruction. We should not as a people reward being a thug. Now, I’m not talking about the cats that take a wrong turn and then manage to get themselves back on track, but still I have a little thug swagger to them. I’m talking about straight curb serving, heat holding, set tripping, 9 o’ clock in the morning Hennessey drinking thug. I heard a comedian once say, “Every lady loves a thug, til’ he’s choking you ass out”.

In order for us to change the current conditions we have to start expecting and demanding more from one another. Black on black murders continue to rise, the percentage of our young black men in jail is on the rise, drugs continue to plague our communities. We are in a dire situation. If our young men continue to die, get incarcerated or and or hooked on drugs, at the rate they have over the past two decades. We face a situation where we’re either going to have to resort back polygamy (like in the biblical days) or possibly face extinction (do the research, its scary). Although the concept of polygamy may put a grin on quite a few fellas faces, I’m sure the ladies don’t feel the same. So lets stop escorting or young brotha’s to the penitentiary and to the morgue.

Editors Note

This Cat Sgt. Pete has a few choice words for Ms London and all these other dumb “thug Luvin” hoes.

Light graffiti, also known as light painting, takes what you think you know about graffiti and turns it on its head. This ephemeral approach to art and expression uses the movement of light to create incredible images and is created on the streets, in nature, and in studios by artists whose creative impulses transcend traditional media. Unlike projection bombing, light graffiti is sometimes produced as performance art, and sometimes just to capture it with photography and video, but either way it makes for some incredible viewing. These ten artists producing light graffiti and light painting represent some of the most amazing talent in a growing (and increasingly strange) field of art.

Stay The F#ck Outta Oniontown

Two teenagers who drove to Oniontown after a series of YouTube videos portrayed the hamlet as a run-down, backwoods dump were pelted with rocks by an angry group of young residents, authorities said.

The two 17-year-olds from Mahopac, about 30 miles south of Oniontown, suffered head and face injuries.

Troopers arrested a 17-year-old from Oniontown on Thursday and charged him with criminal mischief. Additional arrests were expected, police said.

State police investigator Eric Schaefer said it wasn’t the first time out-of-towners were attacked by local residents.

“The biggest recommendation at this point is for everybody to stay out of there,” Schaefer said. “Anybody that doesn’t belong there, anybody that’s not a resident, just stay out of Oniontown.”

In one YouTube video posted in May called “Oniontown Adventures,” three boys with foul mouths supposedly drive up to the town. While there, they mock the poverty they find — giggling at the garbage strewn along the streets and the abandoned cars in the front yards of trailer parks.

In other videos cops warn youngsters not to go there.

This little guy is killing em…

Gunmen killed a top federal police official and his bodyguard Thursday as they ate lunch in Mexico City, the latest attack against authorities waging a nationwide battle against drug cartels.

Igor Labastida was director of the federal police division monitoring trafficking and contraband, said a Mexico City security official who was not authorized to give his name. Federal police refused to comment.

Labastida’s second bodyguard and a woman were injured.

The motive for the attack was unclear and police officials had made no arrests.

The assault was the latest against Mexican officials involved in the nationwide fight against drugs and organized crime.

Edgar Millan Gomez, Mexico’s acting federal police chief, was killed in May outside his Mexico City apartment. Police blamed the Sinaloa drug cartel.

President Felipe Calderon has sent more than 20,000 troops across Mexico to take back territory controlled by some of the world’s most powerful drug gangs.

The cartels have responded with unprecedented violence, killing more than 4,000 people since Calderon took office in December 2006.

The homicides also have become more gruesome, with hit men beheading their enemies and leaving threatening messages with the victims’ bodies.

Lets face it, most people are not buying music anymore. Why? It’s simple. Why would you buy something that you can get for free. In other words why would a fan buy an artists record when they can simply download it from the thousands of bloggers that are sharing music via file sharing sites. This an issue that the Music Industry needs to face, point blank.

While artists and record companies complain about the their fans disloyalty to the artist, they are failing to adapt to a new era of music consumption. It is beneficial for an artist or record labels to have as much exposure as possible. Yet Some still fail to see the value of having their music pirated or given away for free.

It may even be true that there is a positive correlation between illegal downloads/free give-aways and higher records sales.

Let’s take the example of Lil Wayne. Over the past few years, Wayne has been releasing an unprecedented amount of material which has either been given away for free, or illegally pirated via the internet and mix-tapes. His latest album release the Carter III, was leaked all over the internet, yet sold over a million copies in its first week release. The question is why? It is possible that the pirating of his music served as a marketing tool?

Old White Lady Buys Death Row

According to radiofacts.com Suge Knight’s former legendary hip-hop label, Death Row Records, was auctioned and sold on Wednesday for $24 million.A beautician and the president of Global Music Group Susan Berg won the bid putting her in control of all the recordings by Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre during their stay at the label. In addition, her purchase also includes an additional 20 unreleased Tupac tracks. Can someone say “new CD.” Don’t think Afini Shakur will have much say so in this matter.

The purchase ends the infamous label’s tenure from the early to mid-90′s after former owner Suge Knight was forced by a bankruptcy court judge to auction all assets to the highest bidder a few months back.

Prior to Berg’s purchase, Warner Music Group and Koch Records had also shown interest in buying the label’s music catalog.

Police official said on Monday that a 64-year-old Australian man was charged with drunk driving while on his motorized wheelchair in a northern Australian highway.

Officials said the old man fell asleep at 10 a.m. on Friday in an exit lane near the tourist city of Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway in northern Queensland.

A passing police patrol noticed the wheelchair while passing motorists were trying to wake him up.

The man said he wanted to drive about nine miles to visit a friend.

Inspector Bob Waters said the man was breath-tested and found out that he is more than six times over the legal driving limit and charged the man with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Waters said people should also be aware that the drunk driving law should not be limited to just driving a car or truck but also cover other forms of vehicle like horses and bicycles and other classes of vehicle that covered by the drink-driving law.

4 Amazing Ancient Cities

This stuff is from an incredible article @ lifeinthefastlane

Popularly known by their names of color as much as their historical designations — the ancient Blue City known as Jodhpur, neighboring Jaipur known as the Pink City, its former capital the Amber City, and Morocco’s Red City of Marrakech — are as much astonishingly beautiful as they are remarkably unusual.

Jodhpur
Jodhpur — known as the Blue City for the color of its buildings — is the second largest city in Rajasthan, the largest state of the Republic of India, standing at the edge of the large, inhospitable Great Indian Desert (Thar Desert), which has an edge paralleling the Sutlej-Indus river valley along its border with Pakistan.

Most of the buildings in the old quarter are painted blue to signify the Bhraman (Priest) class, but non-Brahmins soon followed suit, as the color was said to deflect the heat and deter mosquitoes, and suddenly everything turned blue, creating a broad vision of indigo from the hilltops.

Dominated by the monstrous and imposing Mehrangarh Fort that appears to grow from out of a sheer rocky ridge 410 feet (125 meters) high of which the Fort is built of right in the middle of town, the ancient city is surrounded by a 16 mile (10 kilometer) long wall, which has 6 massive gates — the Eastern gate Suraj (Sun) Pol, Western gate of Chand (Moon) Pol, Nagauri gate, Merati gate, Jalori gate, and the Siwanchi gate.

Jodhpur Blue City 7
Photo Travayegeur

There are only 3 gates facing in these directions, including the Northern gate which faces toward the ancestral capital of Amber, while many gates face South, and all used to be closed at sunset and opened at sunrise.

The walls of the fort are up to 120 feet (36 meters) high and 70 feet (21 meters) wide, enclosing some exquisite structures and collections of palanquins, howdahs, royal cradles, miniatures, musical instruments, costumes and furniture. The ramparts of Mehrangarh Fort provide not only remarkably preserved cannons, but a breath-taking view of the city.

Jodhpur Blue City 2

This was the way that the Rajputs built their formidable forts and to good effect, as Mehrangarh Fort was never successfully stormed, but the 6 gates still bear visible scars of battle.

The fort was built about a century after Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by the Rajpur chief Rao Jodha, for whom the city is named after.

The old quarter is contained within the confines of the fort, with mostly winding, narrow passages and alleys impossibly cramped with street vendors, shops, bazaars, rickshaws, bicycles, bustling people and animals of all shapes and sizes. The present city has expanded from outside of its walls.
