Some spectacled strippers are looking to score some votes of their own, just for looking like Sarah Palin. A Sin City strip club says it plans to host a lookalike contest in honor of the GOP vice presidential nominee, and is bringing in women from gentlemen’s clubs all over the country to compete.

They’ll be judged by club guests on how they resemble Palin while wearing a swimsuit and how well they debate, according to news release.

A vote will determine the winner. The prize? A $10,000 package including a trip to Washington for Inauguration Day in January.

Officials for Club Paradise Men’s Club in Las Vegas say they’re holding the contest because Palin competed as a beauty queen years ago and is widely impersonated today.

Alton Ellis, the Jamaican singer known as “The Godfather of Rocksteady”, passed away Friday, October 10 at Hammersmith Hospital in London. He was 70 years old.

According to an AP report citing hospital officials, “Ellis died peacefully,” and “his family did not wish to release details.” However, an obituary on the Trojan Records site points to a longstanding battle with cancer of the lymph glands as the cause of Ellis’ death.

Ellis rose to prominence in Jamaica as a ska singer for Clement “Coxsone” Dodd’s Studio One label in the early 60s, but his most influential contributions to Jamaican music came with his jump to Arthur “Duke” Reid’s Treasure Isle in the mid-60s. It was there that Ellis pioneered rocksteady, which preceded reggae by slowing down the tempo of ska, putting more direct focus on the bass, and aping the sweeter, lighter singing style of American R&B stars.

Both solo and with his vocal group the Flames, Ellis’ hits for included “I’m Still in Love With You”, “Get Ready – Rock Steady”, “Cry Tough”, “Girl I’ve Got a Date”, “My Willow Tree”, and “Dance Crasher”.

In the 70s, Ellis moved to England, where he started his own Alltone label and record store. In 2006, he was inducted in the International Reggae and World Music Awards Hall of Fame.

The Black Mafia Family, a nationwide ring of high-volume cocaine distributors, better known as BMF, has been sold to DuBose Entertainment.

Announced today, the terms of the sale were not made public. However, a statement from the company declared that a TV series, similar to The Wire, was being scripted. The statement also alluded to a film script in development as well.

Per DuBose‘ report, “Brothers Demetrious ‘Big Meech’ Flenory and Terry Flenory were sentenced to 30 years in prison for operating a multi-state criminal enterprise involving cocaine distribution. ‘Big Meech,’ the leader of the notorious BMF, lived a lavish lifestyle that he generously shared with his members garnering him a level of notoriety and celebrity status usually reserved for hip hop royalty. Authorities estimate the operation began in Detroit during the 1990s and eventually expanded to Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, California and Texas.“

Meech had been widely known in Hip Hop for his close association with Young Jeezy [click to read] as well as BMF Entertainment’s own artist Bleu DaVinci [click to read].

“This is a complex crime story that weaves elements of humanity, a strong family bond, street-level survival and opulence with real consequences,” says James DuBose. “The acquisition of the Black Mafia Family story reflects my mission to pursue contemporary and authentic stories.“

DuBose also recently announced a partnership with Disturbing Tha Peace’s Chaka Zulu and Jeff Dixon on their own venture Ebony Son Entertainment.

Last night VMA was sub par. Can someone tell me who this Tokyo band is? I must be getting old.

I honestly think that somehow some way, Britney Spears management and/or label paid someone at MTV off. Honestly, this chick was a train wreck last year and her videos sucked. Now all of a sudden, she was in all the VMA commercials, had a buzz of a suprise performance, and then goes on to win all these awards. Are you kidding me? Not even Britney herself believed it. She got up there and was like “Ummmm thanks”.

Alright thats enough. I cant believe I’m blogging about Britney. The highlight of the night was Kanye West’s performance. This dude is constantly putting out cutting edge material. I’ll admit sometime his style is kind of gay, but real recognize real and Kanye has been consistently dropping the truth. All his latest material is something sounding new; “Swagger Like Us”, “Jockin Jay-Z”, and now this new banger he droped out of now where “Love Lockdown”.

This is probably off Kanye’s new album set to drop early winter. I am not a big fan of the T-Pain auto-tune but somehow he pulls this off very well. This guy is changing the game before our eyes.

Sony Pictures is leaving South Korea because of sluggish sales and rampant piracy, The Korea Times is reporting this week. Sony isn’t the first studio to abandon the Korean market; according to the Times, Paramount, Universal, Buena Vista and 20th Century Fox have all ceased operations there, meaning there is no longer a major Hollywood studio operating in South Korea.

Korean DVD sales have been in a free fall in recent years. The newspaper quotes estimates for 2008 of some $285 million vs. $673 million in 2002. At the same time, blazing fast broadband is ubiquitous. The country’s average broadband penetration rate by household hit 90.1 percent last year; in Seoul, the rate was 107.8 percent. Korea’s broadband revolution is often touted as a sign of things to come for the rest of the world, but is the same true for the death of its DVD market?

There’s no question that film-swapping broadband users are behind at least some of the industry’s woes in Korea. In a recent survey, almost 50 percent of Korea’s Internet users have admitted to downloading movies from the Internet, and the typical user is downloading about a movie a week. Copyright isn’t even an issue with the folks that haven’t been getting their Hollywood blockbusters online. Instead, they simply deemed downloading as too complicated.

The slump of DVD sales numbers has also taken its toll on DVD rental stores. The Korea Times is reporting that there were 10,000 of these Blockbuster-type stores back in 2001, but the number was down to 3,500 at the end of last year. Finally, box office sales have been slightly down in 2007 as well, but some attribute this to the changing box office landscape rather than to piracy.

A Grafton woman has been arrested and booked for failing to pay her library fines. Heidi Dalibor, 20, told the News Graphic in Cedarburg she ignored the library’s calls and letters as well as a notice to appear in court. Still, she was surprised when officers with a warrant knocked on her door, cuffed her and took her to the police station to be fingerprinted and photographed. Police Capt. Joe Gabrish saied officers follow the same procedure with every warrant. The incident cost Dalibor about $30 for the overdue paperbacks “White Oleander” and “Angels and Demons” and her mother nearly $172 to get her out of custody.

While Catholic school girls have long garnered attention from the opposite sex, their habit-wearing teachers have never been known for their sex appeal. Nuns seem to be OK with that — after all, one doesn’t pursue an austere life because she wants to get whistles from construction workers.

But an enterprising Italian priest is now hoping to cast a spotlight on the sisterhood by holding the first beauty pageant exclusively for nuns called “Miss Sister Italy.”

“Nuns are above all women and beauty is a gift from God,” said priest Antonio Rungi of the southern Italian diocese of Modragone. “This contest will be a way to show there isn’t just the beauty we see on television but also a more discrete charm.”

In true 21st-century fashion, nuns who want to participate can send their pictures to Rungi, who will publish it on his blog to be voted on.

We told you Tuesday about the man posing as an alleged ‘porn inspector’ in Longmont, Colo., using the claim to attempt to get free videos. Today, a suspect has been arrested.

The Longmont Times-Call reports police have arrested 33-year-old Andrew Libby of Longmont “on suspicion of two counts of impersonating a police officer, child neglect, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, possession of an illegal weapon, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.”

Police also have searched his home, finding an illegal knife, a gun (which Libby is not supposed to possess because he’s a convicted felon), a private security badge and a gun safe with as-of-yet-unknown contents, the paper reported.

The Smoking Gun has Libby’s (latest) mug shot as well as other documents in the case.

A 56 year old Saudi religious policeman, who is an employee of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has been accused of having six wives at the same time, which is two wives over the limit. Under under sharia, or Islamic law, which is applied in Saudi Arabia, Muslim men are allowed to marry up to four wives at the same time.

Three of the women involved were Saudis and the other three were from Yemen, just over the border.

The accused denies the women are all currently his wives and says he has divorced two of them.

If i hear one more educated, intelligent, eloquent, independent black woman say, “I like a little thug luvin’” I’m going to lose my mind. Sistas, please don’t contribute to our cycle of self destruction. We should not as a people reward being a thug. Now, I’m not talking about the cats that take a wrong turn and then manage to get themselves back on track, but still I have a little thug swagger to them. I’m talking about straight curb serving, heat holding, set tripping, 9 o’ clock in the morning Hennessey drinking thug. I heard a comedian once say, “Every lady loves a thug, til’ he’s choking you ass out”.

In order for us to change the current conditions we have to start expecting and demanding more from one another. Black on black murders continue to rise, the percentage of our young black men in jail is on the rise, drugs continue to plague our communities. We are in a dire situation. If our young men continue to die, get incarcerated or and or hooked on drugs, at the rate they have over the past two decades. We face a situation where we’re either going to have to resort back polygamy (like in the biblical days) or possibly face extinction (do the research, its scary). Although the concept of polygamy may put a grin on quite a few fellas faces, I’m sure the ladies don’t feel the same. So lets stop escorting or young brotha’s to the penitentiary and to the morgue.

Many years ago I was in Old Town Pasadena in a small art botique when I stumbled acroos my first Bua. It was the “Pianoman”. I was amazed by the very unique, bluessy, yet modern urban persective his paiting detailed. At the time I decided not to buy the painting. Almost as soon as I left, I regreted not buying it. I went back a couple days later and it was gone. It haunted me.

Years later I was in Tornoto shooting a movie and stumbled across a shop that had four different Bua prints. I wasnt slipping this time, I immediately whipped out my loonies and toonies, (Canadian money) and bought them all.
