Biggest Hip Hop Screw Up’s Of 08

DMX

Earl Simmons was on a mission this year: see how many times he could get arrested and released. He was at 5 by July, but he kept going like a “grand” champ. He branched out and dabbled in false identity, to go along with drug charges and animal cruelty. He was caught on tape cussing out a judge during sentencing, then later on caught hiding out in Scott Storch’s mansion while on the run from Arizona authorities. All this while he was supposed to working on a gospel album. I guess he’s still waiting on a sign, although I blame BET for this because they didn’t renew his reality show. Oh yeah, he ended up on 8 arrests for the year if you were wondering.

RICK ROSS

So Trick Daddy went and spilled the beans about Rick Ross and his past as a correctional officer. If he had been smart, he woulda just admitted to it and kept it moving. Unfortunately he denied it and The Smoking Gun jumped right on the trail (I guess he missed what they did to Akon). Even when the hard proof surfaced, he denied it like his life was on the line. In October he finally admitted to his past in October, but by then he had effectively killed whatever momentum he’d built up with Trilla.

Rick Ross For Obama

It;s nice to see all the rappers who are stepping up fpr Obama. To me any rapper who doesn’t speak out encouraging their fans to vote for Obama for president isn’t real hip hop.

BMF Story Coming To T.V.?

The Black Mafia Family, a nationwide ring of high-volume cocaine distributors, better known as BMF, has been sold to DuBose Entertainment.

Announced today, the terms of the sale were not made public. However, a statement from the company declared that a TV series, similar to The Wire, was being scripted. The statement also alluded to a film script in development as well.

Per DuBose‘ report, “Brothers Demetrious ‘Big Meech’ Flenory and Terry Flenory were sentenced to 30 years in prison for operating a multi-state criminal enterprise involving cocaine distribution. ‘Big Meech,’ the leader of the notorious BMF, lived a lavish lifestyle that he generously shared with his members garnering him a level of notoriety and celebrity status usually reserved for hip hop royalty. Authorities estimate the operation began in Detroit during the 1990s and eventually expanded to Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, California and Texas.“

Meech had been widely known in Hip Hop for his close association with Young Jeezy [click to read] as well as BMF Entertainment’s own artist Bleu DaVinci [click to read].

“This is a complex crime story that weaves elements of humanity, a strong family bond, street-level survival and opulence with real consequences,” says James DuBose. “The acquisition of the Black Mafia Family story reflects my mission to pursue contemporary and authentic stories.“

DuBose
also recently announced a partnership with Disturbing Tha Peace’s Chaka Zulu and Jeff Dixon on their own venture Ebony Son Entertainment.

Hip Hop Fine Art

Painter Alexander Melamid has a new series based on hip-hop heroes. Melamid was introduced to hip-hop royalty by his son, Dan, a music video director. The elder Melamid photographed and drew a dozen of the business’ ranking figures, providing the basis for a series of paintings.

Hip Hop and the V Neck?

By Coke

I bet you thought those were two words you’d never hear together. Me neither. But after going out the other night I realized that a new trend has arisen to accompany the already unforseeable trend of the yeast infection jeans. The V Neck. I was shocked to see regular “macho” (I use that term losely) dudes, trying to look tough in a V Neck. My homey Che Skizza, in almost Nostradamus fashion had predicted this alarming trend years ago, with classic rap lines sich as, “thats not a shirt, its a blouse” and so on and so forth. Now, me myself, I happen to be the type of brotha that keeps an extra collection of T-shirts, to wear under my T-shirts, to insure no part of my neckline is showing at any time. Because where I come from shirts with plunging necklines for men were a definate no no. They don’t look good with khaki’s. To all of my brothas out their, lets get our masculinity back, before it’s too late. The tight jeans, flashy belt buckles and exposed chest should be left to the ladies.

Game Cry’s for Hip Hop

Rappers crying seems to be the new phenomenon I’m not sure what to say. I feel everything the game is saying but it seems real ironic coming from him, then when he starts balling about it I mean damn. If you hadn’t acted  so hard before like you slap babies and spit on your Grandma I’d have more sympathy. The vid is a must watch, I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes.

Just heard about DJ Khalil’s new group The New Royales. DJ Khalil is the man behind Dr.Dre’s new work and has work with everyone from Jigga to Nas. His most recent banger is 50 Cent’s “Still Kill” ft Akon. This new joint “Poser” ft. Jay Electronica by his group The New Royales has caught my interest. This is definitely some alternative Hiphop that I would like to hear more of. Shouts to Grandgood for posting the link.

If you ain’t up on The Cool Kids you better ask somebody. These Chicago based Hiphop hipsters have been making noise on the independent tip for quite some time now. The Cool Kids will be performing at the Rock The Bells Tour this summer.

The latest EP “The Bake Sale” is on heavy rotation on my ipod. This EP has been made popular by their hit single “Black Mags” which has had heavy buzz on the net. Other notable tracks that are worth a listen are “Mickey Rocks” and “Gold and Pager”.

Click here to download The Bake Sale for free. Please sample it and go and buy it asap! This is a real dope independent artist that we should support!

What a trip down hip hop memory lane.
