Who produced the original emblematic che image?
it is based on a photograph by alberto diaz gutierrez, who adopted the surname ‘korda’.
alberto korda captured his famous frame on 5 march 1960 during a mass funeral in havana.
a day earlier, a french cargo ship loaded with ammunition had exploded in the city’s harbour,
killing some 80 cubans. korda was fidel’s official photographer and
he describes che’s expression in the picture, which he labelled ‘guerrillero heroico’ as
‘encabronadao y dolente’ – angry and sad. the picture was one of only two frames taken.
the original shot includes palm fronds and a man facing che, both subsequently cropped out.

The BBC sends this tale about a drug dealer who mailed himself out of a German prison.

The 42-year-old Turkish citizen, described as tall and broad-shouldered, had been making stationery destined for stores. When his shift ended, he climbed into a cardboard box — 59 x 47 inches — and was whisked away by express courier.

He’s still on the lam from the prison in Willich, near Duesseldorf, where he was serving a seven-year sentence. The warden believes he had accomplices.

“I was not surprised that an escape happened on my watch,” said chief warden Beate Peters. “For years I had been asking for more security guards from the government. But now they’ll have to listen.”

Man Eats 23,000 Big Macs

Photobucket Image Hosting

This is just nasty. I can’t believe that this guy eats 2 Big Macs a day sine the 1970′s. Sounds like some viral marketing scheme to me.

Gorske has kept every burger receipt in a box. He says he was always fascinated with numbers, and watching McDonald’s track its number of customers motivated him to track his own consumption.

This video is pretty funny and very biased.

I wonder who pays for this stuff. With the amazing marketing that Obama has created for his campaign I wouldn’t be surprised that his camp had something to do with this and the Obama Girl viral videos, either directly or indirectly.

Check it out its pretty hilarious.

Nun Beauty Pageant!

While Catholic school girls have long garnered attention from the opposite sex, their habit-wearing teachers have never been known for their sex appeal. Nuns seem to be OK with that — after all, one doesn’t pursue an austere life because she wants to get whistles from construction workers.

But an enterprising Italian priest is now hoping to cast a spotlight on the sisterhood by holding the first beauty pageant exclusively for nuns called “Miss Sister Italy.”

“Nuns are above all women and beauty is a gift from God,” said priest Antonio Rungi of the southern Italian diocese of Modragone. “This contest will be a way to show there isn’t just the beauty we see on television but also a more discrete charm.”

In true 21st-century fashion, nuns who want to participate can send their pictures to Rungi, who will publish it on his blog to be voted on.

We told you Tuesday about the man posing as an alleged ‘porn inspector’ in Longmont, Colo., using the claim to attempt to get free videos. Today, a suspect has been arrested.

The Longmont Times-Call reports police have arrested 33-year-old Andrew Libby of Longmont “on suspicion of two counts of impersonating a police officer, child neglect, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, possession of an illegal weapon, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.”

Police also have searched his home, finding an illegal knife, a gun (which Libby is not supposed to possess because he’s a convicted felon), a private security badge and a gun safe with as-of-yet-unknown contents, the paper reported.

The Smoking Gun has Libby’s (latest) mug shot as well as other documents in the case.

Next Thing In Art – Bua

By Coke

Many years ago I was in Old Town Pasadena in a small art botique when I stumbled acroos my first Bua. It was the “Pianoman”. I was amazed by the very unique, bluessy, yet modern urban persective his paiting detailed. At the time I decided not to buy the painting. Almost as soon as I left, I regreted not buying it. I went back a couple days later and it was gone. It haunted me.

Years later I was in Tornoto shooting a movie and stumbled across a shop that had four different Bua prints. I wasnt slipping this time, I immediately whipped out my loonies and toonies, (Canadian money) and bought them all. In short order I shipped them back home and til this day they adorn my living room walls. Check out some of his pieces below. For more info and images check out his site at justinbua.com.

Poppin’ & Lockin’

By Coke

Boogaloo Shrimp, arguably the best popper that ever did it. The east held down breakdancin’, got to give respect to the architects, however the west definitely held down poppin and lockin’. That’s because poppin’ looked fresher when you had a jherri curl. As evidence check out the clips below. I found and ill Turbo tribute clip as well as the classic solo with the broom in breakin’. And also some classic clips of old school underground legends The Electric Boogaloos and Captain Crunch and The Funk Bunch (not to be confused with Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch).

Hip Hop and the V Neck?

By Coke

I bet you thought those were two words you’d never hear together. Me neither. But after going out the other night I realized that a new trend has arisen to accompany the already unforseeable trend of the yeast infection jeans. The V Neck. I was shocked to see regular “macho” (I use that term losely) dudes, trying to look tough in a V Neck. My homey Che Skizza, in almost Nostradamus fashion had predicted this alarming trend years ago, with classic rap lines sich as, “thats not a shirt, its a blouse” and so on and so forth. Now, me myself, I happen to be the type of brotha that keeps an extra collection of T-shirts, to wear under my T-shirts, to insure no part of my neckline is showing at any time. Because where I come from shirts with plunging necklines for men were a definate no no. They don’t look good with khaki’s. To all of my brothas out their, lets get our masculinity back, before it’s too late. The tight jeans, flashy belt buckles and exposed chest should be left to the ladies.

Editors Note- The Bros Johnson started this man!

OBAMA VS THE BABY’S DADDY’S

By Coke

I don’t understand my people sometimes. I’ve read a lot of the black socially-political blogs lately. And I see a lot of black people angry with, (or hating on, depending on how you look at it) Obama, because of the comments he made on Fathers Day regarding black fathers. Now prior to this a lot of these same folks criticized Obama for not addressing the “black issues”. I once heard a preacher in church say, “if you cant say amen, say ouch!” Now, being a very present, black father (no baby daddy) myself, from the “hood” and a the product of a absentee father who I didn’t even meet until I was ten, I can tell you first hand absent black fathers is a HUGE problem in our community. It along with gang violence, drugs, racist cops and a biased judicial system, are to blame for the many disenfranchised young men we see hanging on corners, as well as the ones we hear in rap music spitting such non sense.

Light graffiti, also known as light painting, takes what you think you know about graffiti and turns it on its head. This ephemeral approach to art and expression uses the movement of light to create incredible images and is created on the streets, in nature, and in studios by artists whose creative impulses transcend traditional media. Unlike projection bombing, light graffiti is sometimes produced as performance art, and sometimes just to capture it with photography and video, but either way it makes for some incredible viewing. These ten artists producing light graffiti and light painting represent some of the most amazing talent in a growing (and increasingly strange) field of art.
