Banksy is well known around the world in no small part due to his massive popularity online. Banksy art has made its way into all kinds of nooks and crannies on the internet but few collections are anything close to comprehensive (and in many cases are not even coherent). Most are difficult to navigate and devoid of context, featuring disparate works alongside one another without explanation.

Best Of Both Worlds - Chcolate Beer

There’s beer in my chocolate! There’s chocolate in my beer! Somehow this combo doesn’t feel nearly as right as Reese’s famous mixing of peanut butter and chocolate. I drink many different types of beer, but I don’t think this chocolate beer is going to work for me. Anybody tried this?

Woman Finds Cash Filled Shoes

Wisconsin woman says she found a wad of cash in a pair of boots she purchased at a thrift store.

Dimitra Anderson said she found the undisclosed amount of cash when she tried a pair of boots and found a sock with a bank envelope inside each of the boots, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Sunday.

The newspaper said Anderson bought the boots for $3, and did not mention the cash she found to the clerk.

Anderson and her husband Rick contacted the Journal Sentinel for help in finding the loot’s owner. If they can’t find the person, the couple say they plan to donate the money to charity.

“I knew I wasn’t going to keep it, no matter how much it was. If it’s going to be mine, it’s going to the Rescue Mission or the Humane Society,” Dimitra Anderson said.

BMF Brothers Get 30 yrs Each!

Kids take notice everybody wants to walk the gangster walk but nobody wants to pay the consequenses. This is how it ends if your lucky most likely it’s an early trip to the cemetary.

Brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory were sentenced to 30 years in prison on Friday Sept. 12, for running the cocain ring known as The Black Family Mafia. BMF is an organization that hailed out of Detroit and distributed cocain and other drugs throughout the US. It has been said that rapper Young Jeezy among many other music industry types was associated with BMF.

Via AHH:

Demetrius and Terry were apprehended in 2005 and indicted under the CCE (Continuing Criminal Enterprise) law, which like RICO charges carry life sentences.

Under the federal prison system, there is no parole option.

Seeking to avoid spending the rest of their natural lives in prison, the brothers pleaded guilty in November 2007 to the CCE charges and laundering drug money in hopes of serving the minimum 20 year sentence.

However, evidence presented by prosecutors resulted in 30 year sentences for both men. BMF was founded by the brothers in Detroit during the late 1980s.

After quickly securing valuable contacts with international coke suppliers, the organization grew to a nationwide criminal conspiracy within a few years.

The group began to draw unwanted attention from federal agents in 2003 once they established a high-profile operation in Atlanta, where they erected billboards, held lavish parties, created DVDs, and boasted of their connections with rappers Young Jeezy and Fabolous.

Also notable in the organization’s downfall was Meech’s involvement in a brazen 2003 shootout in the Buckhead nightclub section of Atlanta that left two men dead, including Sean “Diddy” Combs’ bodyguard Anthony “Wolf” Jones.

In 2005, agents raided several key BMF operations in Georgia, Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, and California.

To date, those raids have resulted in over 150 indictments of BMF members or associates, effectively dismantling the drug empire.

According to authorities, these convictions of BMF’s top members end a 15 year investigation into the Black Mafia Family’s criminal enterprise.

At their peak, Demetrius (age 40) and Terry (age 38) Flenory are estimated to have controlled a cocaine empire worth $270 million.

Sony Pictures is leaving South Korea because of sluggish sales and rampant piracy, The Korea Times is reporting this week. Sony isn’t the first studio to abandon the Korean market; according to the Times, Paramount, Universal, Buena Vista and 20th Century Fox have all ceased operations there, meaning there is no longer a major Hollywood studio operating in South Korea.

Korean DVD sales have been in a free fall in recent years. The newspaper quotes estimates for 2008 of some $285 million vs. $673 million in 2002. At the same time, blazing fast broadband is ubiquitous. The country’s average broadband penetration rate by household hit 90.1 percent last year; in Seoul, the rate was 107.8 percent. Korea’s broadband revolution is often touted as a sign of things to come for the rest of the world, but is the same true for the death of its DVD market?

There’s no question that film-swapping broadband users are behind at least some of the industry’s woes in Korea. In a recent survey, almost 50 percent of Korea’s Internet users have admitted to downloading movies from the Internet, and the typical user is downloading about a movie a week. Copyright isn’t even an issue with the folks that haven’t been getting their Hollywood blockbusters online. Instead, they simply deemed downloading as too complicated.

The slump of DVD sales numbers has also taken its toll on DVD rental stores. The Korea Times is reporting that there were 10,000 of these Blockbuster-type stores back in 2001, but the number was down to 3,500 at the end of last year. Finally, box office sales have been slightly down in 2007 as well, but some attribute this to the changing box office landscape rather than to piracy.

Next Thing in Art - Graffiti Light

Grabbed this amazing article at weburbanist

Light graffiti, also known as light painting, takes what you think you know about graffiti and turns it on its head. This ephemeral approach to art and expression uses the movement of light to create incredible images and is created on the streets, in nature, and in studios by artists whose creative impulses transcend traditional media. Unlike projection bombing, light graffiti is sometimes produced as performance art, and sometimes just to capture it with photography and video, but either way it makes for some incredible viewing. These ten artists producing light graffiti and light painting represent some of the most amazing talent in a growing (and increasingly strange) field of art.

Lets face it, most people are not buying music anymore. Why? It’s simple. Why would you buy something that you can get for free. In other words why would a fan buy an artists record when they can simply download it from the thousands of bloggers that are sharing music via file sharing sites. This an issue that the Music Industry needs to face, point blank.

While artists and record companies complain about the their fans disloyalty to the artist, they are failing to adapt to a new era of music consumption. It is beneficial for an artist or record labels to have as much exposure as possible. Yet Some still fail to see the value of having their music pirated or given away for free.

It may even be true that there is a positive correlation between illegal downloads/free give-aways and higher records sales.

Let’s take the example of Lil Wayne. Over the past few years, Wayne has been releasing an unprecedented amount of material which has either been given away for free, or illegally pirated via the internet and mix-tapes. His latest album release the Carter III, was leaked all over the internet, yet sold over a million copies in its first week release. The question is why? It is possible that the pirating of his music served as a marketing tool?

Old White Lady Buys Death Row

According to radiofacts.com Suge Knight’s former legendary hip-hop label, Death Row Records, was auctioned and sold on Wednesday for $24 million.A beautician and the president of Global Music Group Susan Berg won the bid putting her in control of all the recordings by Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre during their stay at the label. In addition, her purchase also includes an additional 20 unreleased Tupac tracks. Can someone say “new CD.” Don’t think Afini Shakur will have much say so in this matter.

The purchase ends the infamous label’s tenure from the early to mid-90’s after former owner Suge Knight was forced by a bankruptcy court judge to auction all assets to the highest bidder a few months back.

Prior to Berg’s purchase, Warner Music Group and Koch Records had also shown interest in buying the label’s music catalog.

4 Amazing Ancient Cities

This stuff is from an incredible article @ lifeinthefastlane

Popularly known by their names of color as much as their historical designations — the ancient Blue City known as Jodhpur, neighboring Jaipur known as the Pink City, its former capital the Amber City, and Morocco’s Red City of Marrakech — are as much astonishingly beautiful as they are remarkably unusual.

Jodhpur Blue City 1
Photo Dietollevonlioe

Jodhpur
Jodhpur — known as the Blue City for the color of its buildings — is the second largest city in Rajasthan, the largest state of the Republic of India, standing at the edge of the large, inhospitable Great Indian Desert (Thar Desert), which has an edge paralleling the Sutlej-Indus river valley along its border with Pakistan.

Jodhpur Blue City 12
Photo Eviltonthai

Most of the buildings in the old quarter are painted blue to signify the Bhraman (Priest) class, but non-Brahmins soon followed suit, as the color was said to deflect the heat and deter mosquitoes, and suddenly everything turned blue, creating a broad vision of indigo from the hilltops.

Dominated by the monstrous and imposing Mehrangarh Fort that appears to grow from out of a sheer rocky ridge 410 feet (125 meters) high of which the Fort is built of right in the middle of town, the ancient city is surrounded by a 16 mile (10 kilometer) long wall, which has 6 massive gates — the Eastern gate Suraj (Sun) Pol, Western gate of Chand (Moon) Pol, Nagauri gate, Merati gate, Jalori gate, and the Siwanchi gate.

Jodhpur Blue City 7
Photo Travayegeur

There are only 3 gates facing in these directions, including the Northern gate which faces toward the ancestral capital of Amber, while many gates face South, and all used to be closed at sunset and opened at sunrise.

The walls of the fort are up to 120 feet (36 meters) high and 70 feet (21 meters) wide, enclosing some exquisite structures and collections of palanquins, howdahs, royal cradles, miniatures, musical instruments, costumes and furniture. The ramparts of Mehrangarh Fort provide not only remarkably preserved cannons, but a breath-taking view of the city.

Jodhpur Blue City 2
Photo Roblerner

This was the way that the Rajputs built their formidable forts and to good effect, as Mehrangarh Fort was never successfully stormed, but the 6 gates still bear visible scars of battle.

The fort was built about a century after Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by the Rajpur chief Rao Jodha, for whom the city is named after.

The old quarter is contained within the confines of the fort, with mostly winding, narrow passages and alleys impossibly cramped with street vendors, shops, bazaars, rickshaws, bicycles, bustling people and animals of all shapes and sizes. The present city has expanded from outside of its walls.

Scott Stortch A Lesson In Tricking

All I can say is wow.  Complex really put Scott on blast about buying Bentlleys for Lil KIm & Paris Hilton etc. Doing way too much Scott, hopefully one of these starlets will come back and help a brother when he’s down. Or for his sake maybe he has a sex tape of one of these famous ladies he can slang on the open market. His beats were so hot what happened with that as he lost his hit power to the white powder? Check the crazy tricking spree below.
As of today, pint-sized hitmaker Scott Storch is a wanted man. A warrant was issued for the producer who has churned out hits for everyone from Fat Joe to Brooke Hogan after a Florida judge ordered him to pay a minimum of $46,000 in child support. Coupled with Storch owing over a half-million dollars in property taxes, it seems as though his pockets are taking a beating worse than one of Kimbo Slice’s YouTube opponents.

Of course, making it rain on his extensive yacht collection and picking up the Terror Squad’s dinner tabs didn’t help the superproducer’s financial status. But we all know that the biggest suck on your wallet is usually having a girlfriend. And given all the socialites, rappers and models he’s dated, it’s not unreasonable to think that Storch’s financial plight might stem from the high-maintenance women in his life. After the jump, we’ve listed some of the notable ladies he’s been linked to.

Lil Kim
kim-scott.jpg
Storch hooked up with the Queen Bee back in 2004 for a quick two-month relationship. It was a costly 60-something days for Scottie, who gave Kim a $150,000 Bentley Continental GT, which may or may not be the Bentley that was reposed from Kim’s crib a few weeks ago. Talk about hustling backwards.

Paris Hilton
paris-scott.jpg
Paris has Scott Storch to thank for half of the songs from her nearly unlistenable 2006 album. Like Lil Kim, it was reported that Storch also copped Paris Hilton a Bentley, which is apparently the producer’s gift of choice when he’s trying to smash off.

Erica Mena
erica-mena.jpg
Although these two were definitely a couple, there’s no record of what Storch was shelling out to keep video-chick regular/model Erica Mena interested. We’re guessing close to nothing—he probably told her he was gonna make her a famous actress. It’s every video chick’s dream!

Lindsay Lohan
lindsay-scott.jpg
In 2007, Lilo got the extravagant gift treatment from the Floridian hit-maker, getting showered in over $1 million worth of jewelry. The two later split when Lindsay gave him the pink slip for “Girls Gone Wild” purveyor Joe Francis.

Dalene Daniel
dalene.jpg
This was the closest thing Storch had to a down-ass-chick. The couple lasted for over 4 years, with a few normal bumps in the road, but in 2006 the shit hit the fan when Daniel filed a paternity suit against Storch (which he ignored) after he didn’t claim responsibility for their second son Jalen. Today, a judge ruled Storch has to pay at least $46,000 in back child support for the 2-year-old, issuing a warrant for his arrest.

Winehouse Down With Mandela

Glad to see all those foriegn substances and lack of proper hygiene have not affected the super talented singers support of positive causes.

Amy Winehouse says she will perform next month at a concert honoring Nelson Mandela.

The concert will be held June 27 in London’s Hyde Park to celebrate the former South African president’s birthday. Mandela turns 90 on July 18.

The lineup for the concert _ which will benefit Mandela’s AIDS charity _ also includes Queen, Simple Minds, Leona Lewis and the Soweto Gospel Choir.

Former President Clinton and talk-show host Oprah Winfrey are among those expected to attend.

Winehouse is scheduled to perform at a string of music festivals this summer as she tries to refocus attention on her music rather than on her tempestuous personal life.

Earlier this month, the 24-year-old singer was arrested and questioned by police about video footage that appeared to show her inhaling fumes from a crack pipe. Police said the singer would not be charged.

Taiwanese Decaying Space Hood

Thanks to boingboing

Craig Ferguson snuck into Taiwan’s abandoned hyper-futuristic San-Zhr Pod Village, a rotting, curvilinear housing complex that has been cursed since its inception, killing and injuring some of its construction crew.

Just before arriving in Sanzhi, there’s an interesting site hugging the shoreline - an abandoned hotel/apartment complex that looks like somewhere ET might call home. I first heard about this a couple of years ago, but it was only recently that I was able to get out there.

Accounts vary on the origins of this complex, and indeed, as to whether it was meant to be a hotel development or a housing development. Apparently, it was constructed in the 1960s and included/was to include a dam to protect it against sea surges, floors and stairs made of marble and a small amusement park. The site was commissioned by the government and local firms and there is no named architect. Local papers at the time reported that there were numerous accidents during construction which caused the death of some workers. As news of these accidents spread, no one wanted to go there, even to visit, and the project was subsequently abandoned. The ghosts of those who died in vain are said to still linger there, unremembered and unable to pass on. The complex was left in its unfinished state because no amount of redevelopment will bring people to the area due to superstitions about ghosts, and it can’t be demolished because destroying the homes of spirits and lost souls is taboo in Asian culture.

Biggest Turn-Off Tattoos

Funny article I found @ jilliansjournal.com I added the pix and some comments of my own.

Getting a tattoo, for most people at least, is sort of a big decision. Its one of those life long decisions that isnt easily taken back (and somewhat messily if so). It also has evolved as a way of making a statement about a person. A person stamp indicating the bearers soul, or something like that.

Still, despite the hip factor of tattoos, there are some which can be instant turn-offs to the opposite sex. Below are five of the worst offenders. Getting the below tattoos might speak to your inner soul, but it might speak louder to potential dates, screaming, Run away!

The name of an ex

This one should be obvious. Yes, there is the romanticism of permanently branding yourself with the name of your significant other. Wait, strike that last part. There is nothing romantic about that. Instead it seems to signal a sort of sad co-dependency you share. That’s made even worse when you’re no longer with that person.

The worst thing you can ever do in a relationship is completely subjugate yourself. A tattoo of the other persons name is the adult equivalent of your mother writing your name in your underwear before camp. It signals that left to your own devices you would lose track of whom you belonged to. Youd be better served by instead getting their favorite flower, animal, or line of poetry tattooed in honor of them.

Ed Note - Big business in covering up these tat’s

Anything to do with a band

It can be guaranteed said band thinks far less of you than you do of them. See the above rule. Buy a t-shirt or a second copy of their new CD instead.

ed Note - Super Red Flag screaming “I’m a groupie!!”

Someone’s face

The obvious problem with getting an actual face tattooed on you can easily relate back to one of the issues listed above. Less obvious, at least to some, is that a face is generally meant to look one certain way–the way the person looks. With Mario or the devil there is some artistic interpreting to be done.

So, in about ten years when youve put on a few pounds, that face is going to look bloated. Not just bloated, but horribly distorted depending on the amount of weight gained. Compare that to Mario who looks kind of funny the fatter he gets. Jack Johnson, on the other hand, begins looking kind of scary. This may not be so much a concern for the immediate future, but if you think you might be on the market again, its probably to keep one face per body.

Ed Note - This pix had me rolling!! It’s some English Boy Band Westlife

Ecsort Scandal - Madame Nici

Ashley Massaro

Michelle Braun aka Nici

The latest issue of Rolling Stone alleges that WWE Diva Ashley Massaro worked for Los Angeles escort service Bella Models, which is run by Michelle Braun (a/k/a Nici). The story notes that it’s not just Braun making the claim. Rather, the story notes that the FBI tracked emails in which Bella Models made travel arrangements for Massaro and other clients. It also states:

“All I do is make the introductions between famous girls and rich guys who want to meet them,” Braun told Rolling Stone. “I think the rates I charge are justified just to meet these women, even if nothing happens.”

FBI papers omit the names of the men who allegedly paid for the services, yet list the names of Massaro, other Playboy models, a Maxim model, and adult film stars. Some of the emails discuss whether the women allow “fetish” or “GFE” (girlfriend experience). The Rolling Stone story features a photo of Massaro and lists her as a “professional wrestler—WWE” on page 52 of the May 15 issue.

Rolling Stone alleges, “prominent athletes, TV stars, and Fortune 500 CEOs” were among Braun’s clientele. Nice of the government to protect those names yet release the names of the women involved.
An article in Details says “by most accounts, the most beautiful (and expensive) pros in the business are with Nici’s Girls, a favorite of numerous high-profile industry-ites — including the head of a management company and a well-known producer of nearly 70 movies. The producer persuaded his former leading man, currently the star of a popular network show, to sign on for a movie by sending two Nici’s Girls over for the weekend.
If anyone has taken Fleiss’ place, it’s Nici — otherwise known as Michelle Braun, a 27-year-old mother of two who until recently lived in Bakersfield, 100 miles outside of L.A. Braun claims that she left the company over a year ago and that it was never an escort or prostitution business but a special-appearance booking company that hired out girls for everything from casual meetings to casino openings. “My service was for people to meet famous people,” Braun tells me over the phone. “Not like Julia Roberts, more like B-actress famous.”
Two different sources, one of whom is an FBI informant, said that the agency is investigating Braun. (FBI spokesperson Vicki Hampton-Franklin said that she couldn’t confirm or deny such an investigation.) When I started researching this story, www.nicisgirls.com was a fully functional Web site that required a membership number to delve any further than the home page. Several days after Braun and I spoke, the site had been replaced with a note saying that the domain name was for sale.”

Other articles say similar things about Michelle Braun including that she is now a millionairess. She had porn stars, models and actresses working for her for 40 grand or so per weekend.

Braun does confess that actor Charlie Sheen answered one of her early ads. That’s hardly a shocking revelation given Sheen’s track record. Braun claimed she dropped off four escorts at Sheen’s home and found the actor waiting in silk pajamas with “C. MaSheen” embroidered on the front. Stay classy, Chuck.

R Kelly Sex Allegations!

Saw this massive list of allegations @ http://www.hitsville.org

R. Kelly is supposed to go on trial in Chicago on child-sex charges next month, more than five years after a videotape came to light of a figure the police say is the singer performing various sex acts with and on an under-aged girl.

Hitsville’s ongoing feature, R. Kelly SexFacts™, has been provided as a public service to the many, many folks who have written about R. Kelly but who seem to have been unaware of many of the, ah, pungent aspects of this story.

Or you can think of it all as R. Kelly’s Greatest Hits—”hits,” that is, in the sexual predator sense of the term.

Now it’s time to wrap up, and present the story thus far.

N.B.: this is a compelling tale, but a little bit barfy as well.

And remember, kids: R. Kelly SexFacts”™ are based entirely on reporting in reputable publications!

r. kelly mug shot

The R. Kelly case started when Jim DeRogatis, the pop critic at the Chicago Sun-Times, and Abdon M. Pallasch, the paper’s legal reporter, wrote a 3000-word story detailing the Chicago star’s penchant for young girls. It was published way back in December 2000—the day before a sold-out Christmas concert by the singer at the city’s United Center!

r. kelly mug shot

The story detailed the first sex suit against Kelly, including the $250,000 out-of-court settlement that resulted. The pair also talked with a woman who said she’d had sex with Kelly as a 15-year-old, and even had sex with him and another girl. Accusations #’s 1 and 2!

r. kelly mug shot

According to the story, Kelly met the girls by hanging out with the choir at his old high school, the scamp!

r. kelly mug shot

A year later, DeRogatis received a phone call telling him to check his mailbox. In it was a videotape showing Kelly having sex with a young girl. The girl’s aunt identified her, and Kelly. In the tape, the singer called her by her first name; she called him “Daddy.” Accusation #3.

r. kelly mug shot

Besides a variety of sex acts, the girl urinates on the floor at “Daddy’s” direction. “Daddy” then urinates into her mouth.

r. kelly mug shot

After the tapes came to light, Kelly’s lawyer said this: “The fact is there is no tape of R. Kelly having sex. There have been reports in the media of different tapes, and none of them agrees with the other. If someone does say there is a tape out there, those claims are false—absolutely false.”

MEXICO CITY — On Sunday, following one of the bloodiest days in Tijuana’s history, authorities held no news conferences. The death toll in the gangland-style shootings early Saturday between rival drug traffickers increased to 15 from 13, after two men died of their injuries. But not even the names of the dead were released.

Instead, speculation, rumor and scattered news leaks filled the information vacuum after yet another battle in Mexico’s drug wars.

Official silence is common in Mexico, where thousands have been killed in drug-related violence since President Felipe Calderon took office in December 2006.
“We wouldn’t see so much bloodshed if the Mexican government were more complicit with these [criminal] organizations and just letting them have their way,” said David Shirk, director of the Trans-Border Institute at the University of San Diego.

At the same time, the Tijuana shootout was just one of several seen in border communities in recent years. And unless officials decide to reveal more about who was involved and what happened, the true meaning of the bloodshed is likely to remain a mystery.

On Sunday morning Tijuana residents awoke to a rogue’s gallery of criminal names in their newspapers.

“According to reliable sources,” reported, the shootout was between rivals within the Arellano Felix gang.

Or maybe not. The national daily El Universal reported that the so-called Sinaloa cartel was to blame.

Several newspapers reported that among the dead was “Crutches,” a.k.a. Luis Alfonso Velarde, a reputed local drug lord with a handful of YouTubevideo tributes to his name.

Another, even bigger “cartel” operative nicknamed “Mr. Three Letters” might be dead too, along with “La Perra,” reported El Sol de Tijuana. And they may all have been ambushed by another cartel leader known as “El Cholo.”

But no one was willing to confirm any of that on the record.

Official silence, many here argue, helps feed the culture of corruption. It is a widely recognized truth that drug traffickers operate in Baja California and elsewhere with the protection of some public officials.

On Tuesday, Gen. Sergio Aponte Polito, the commander of troops in the Baja region, took the extraordinary step of writing an open letter to a local newspaper that identified several law enforcement officials he alleged were linked to organized crime.

The letter’s implicit argument was that officials who protect organized crime are likely to escape prosecution thanks to the culture of secrecy that surrounds law enforcement here.

“Isn’t this corruption?” the general asked. “What a disgrace for the society of Baja California!”

Calderon’s government has worked hard to clean up law enforcement. His top police official, Genaro Garcia Luna, has purged the Federal Investigative Agency of corrupt cops. Soldiers have temporarily disarmed police in Tijuana and other cities, and several reputed drug bosses have been extradited to the United States.

Yet the widespread violence shows few signs of abating. An estimated 2,500 people were killed in drug-related violence last year, officials say. So far this year, more than 850 people have been killed, according to tallies by news agencies.

They have like 18 billion dvds. Every band you’ve ever heard of and a gazillion you haven’t. If your in LA or the bay area this is a sure fire winner. While all other record stores die Amoeba thrives. The success of the small but mighty Amoeba chain in today’s music industry climate definitely deserves analysis and praise! I hope to do a piece soon all about Amoeba and how they came to be. http://www.amoeba.com/
